Often it begins when we are young as a means of coping with uncomfortable feelings, a lack of connection or as the result of trauma such as sexual abuse. Studies have shown that up to 80% of sex addicts experienced traumatic events in childhood. As this disease advances the brain responds by producing endorphins whenever there is sexual activity. As the addiction increases so will the neural responses to sex which can be as powerful and as addictive as narcotics.
